The GYLP product development team is responsible for the design and development of battery systems, battery modules, battery management and protection electronics, battery chargers, and cell balancing systems for aerospace, defense, and high reliability industrial and transit applications.
Scope of Responsibilities / Expectations:
Design mechanical assemblies and components for the packaging of batteries, cells, and power & control electronics subassemblies with guidance from a senior engineer. Validate those designs through testing and analysis to verify compliance with customer requirements and regulatory constraints. Generate mechanical specifications, drawings and associated bills-of-material for the above assemblies and components. Applications include industrial, space, aircraft, land vehicle and marine surface and under-sea use. Technical challenges include design for high internal power dissipation, both transient and steady-state, and harsh environments. Environmental requirements include vibration, shock, temperature extremes, altitude, and immersion. Understand and apply principles of design for manufacturing. Communicate with vendors to produce effective results. Conduct work in a schedule-driven environment.
Competencies:
Develop, integrate, and document battery and charger enclosures, structural elements, and retaining systems to establish mechanical design. Develop, maintain, and modify component designs using computer-aided design tools and/or other design methods to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers, and customers throughout the product lifecycle. Validate designs through testing and analysis to verify compliance with customer requirements and design specifications.
Education and/or Experience:
- BSME/BSMET from an accredited course of study.
- Strong solid modeling skills and familiarity with 3D cad modeling software, experience with Solidworks preferred.
- Familiarity with FEA software, Cosmos preferred.
- Ability to conduct FMEA.
